Any cat experts out there?

My adopted cat, Ernie, has taken to peeing on any clothes I leave on the floor...or just the floor, whatever. I have tried to break the habit of leaving any clothes on the floor, but sometimes I am in a hurry, & when I jump in the shower, just toss my clothes on the floor, to pick them up later. So Ernie pees on them. I *thought* this was only if he didn't have much litter in his box, or if it was full, whatever. But he just did it, & his litter box is full of litter, & clean from waste (I keep it really clean).

So what do I do? I can't have him peeing on my clothes, or on the carpet (clothes are easy to wash...carpet, not so much). I don't know what to do. If it keeps up, I am going to have to find another home for him, because I just can't have this. I adore him, but this has got to stop. There's no rhyme or reason to it, & I see no solution to it. And yes, he gets attention & affection, so that really can't be it.

Any ideas?
