""I can't understand why the U.S. drops food from the skies in the middle of the night. It should be distributed properly,'' said Mohammed Sarwar."
Ummm...shouldn't they just be grateful that they are getting food, period? What do they suggest we do, just drive some vans, as Americans (in other words, hated), into the towns & drop off some food "properly?" It's unfortunate that some immoral people are grabbing the rations & selling them to people who cannot afford them, but there's no way to get around that.
I just think it's extremely generous of America to drop off food rations for them in the first place (no one in their own country is helping them, & I don't see other countries dropping off food), so to quibble over HOW it's getting delivered seems a bit...ungrateful to me. That would be like a friend lending me money right now, but telling me what grocery store to spend it in....I should just be grateful to have the money.
Maybe it's just me....
But here's another question....some people say we should just butt out of other countries, leave them to fight their own battles, basically be isolationists. What if we didn't drop blankets & food rations to these people? Who would help them? Can they help themselves at this point? Were they surviving well? Were they eating? From my understanding, most of the country was on it's way to starvation, if not already there. Should we just give them charity, give them handouts....and just butt out of everything else? If you donate money to charity, you have every right to dictate where the money goes. I just think if people think it's okay for us to help other countries when they need help, that they need to shut up about us being in the countries to help in other ways not as popular. I mean, I hear some people saying we need to leave the Afghanistan people alone to fight their own battles against the Taliban, that it's none of our business. Well, they weren't doing such a good job of fighting them on their own, were they? The Taliban needs to be destroyed, & if the Afghanistan people need our help to do it, so be it. We are getting rid of some powerful US enemies at the same time. Sometimes you have to help others even if they DON'T ask for the help (out of pride, or whatever).
